The 22nd Chinese Bridge Competition at the University of Durban Technology

The 22nd edition of the Chinese Bridge University competition is located in Durban. This prestigious competition, hosted at the Durban University of Technology, is a time to celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity and foster greater connections between South Africa and China.

Universities from across South Africa are partaking in this remarkable event. Among them is the University of the Western Cape, the University of Cape Town, the University of Stellenbosch, the University of Johannesburg, and more. These institutions, renowned for their academic brilliance, will bring their best to showcase their students' grasp of the Chinese language and their understanding of China's rich culture.

For those unfamiliar with the Chinese Bridge Competition, it's more than a competition—a vibrant cultural exchange. It provides a platform for non-Chinese university students to demonstrate their Chinese language proficiency, their knowledge of China, and their talents in Chinese-related performances. Over the years, the Chinese Bridge Competition has grown exponentially, reaching millions of students worldwide, reflecting the increasing global interest in the Chinese language and culture. This year, our very own Confucius Institute at the University of the Western Cape is delighted to participate in the event. Representing us is our incredibly talented fifth-year Chinese Medicine student, Sino, from the School of Natural Medicine.

Sino's journey with the Chinese language and culture has been truly inspiring. She has shown exemplary passion not only for the study of traditional Chinese medicine but also for the language and culture that surrounds it. She embodies the essence of the Chinese Bridge Competition: a thirst for knowledge, a spirit of cultural exchange, and a drive to bridge the distance between our different worlds.

In the upcoming competition, Sino will be pitting her skills against students from around South Africa. Yet, no matter the outcome, the experience she gains will be invaluable. This event represents an opportunity to enrich her understanding of Chinese culture, meet like-minded individuals, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

So, join us in supporting Sino and all the participants as they embark on this remarkable journey. The Chinese Bridge Competition is not just a contest of language proficiency, but a testament to the power of cultural exchange and understanding in shaping a more connected and harmonious world.

Stay tuned for more updates as the competition unfolds.
