Chinese medicine recognizes the importance of exercise to promote health and wellness. It views exercise as a physical activity and a way to cultivate one's qi, or vital life force energy. Tai Chi Chuan and Baduanjin are two forms of exercise commonly recommended in Chinese medicine for their health benefits. These exercises are believed to improve circulation, enhance immune function, regulate the nervous system, and promote mental clarity and emotional balance. They also help to strengthen the body's internal organs and improve overall body mechanics. Chinese medicine doctors may recommend these exercises to patients to support their treatment plan and help them achieve optimal health and well-being. Additionally, regular practice of these exercises can help patients take an active role in their health, giving them a sense of empowerment and control over their well-being.
Dr Yang, our Chinese Doctor specialising in rehabilitation, teaches UWC students the form of Baduanjin, a type of Qigong.
