The UWC Confucius Institute celebrated Chinese New Year in style at Freedom Square on February 13, 2024 by offering dumplings to the campus community.
At this event, approximately 2000 dumplings were prepared and served to the campus community. The event was so popular that students and staff queued for hours from 11 in the morning until just before 2pm, eagerly awaiting the delicious chicken and vegetable dumplings.
But this event wasn't just about eating. Attendees also had the unique opportunity to learn how to roll, fill, and fold dumplings, with the guidance of the institute's Director, Dr. Iris Wu, and language instructor, Ms. Lin Ling. The sound of dumplings being fried and steamed filled the air, creating a festive atmosphere.
Beyond the culinary experience, students and staff also learned a great deal about the history and significance of dumplings in Chinese culture. They discovered how to use chopsticks with ease and even explored various dipping sauces to enhance the flavors of their dumplings.
The event was a perfect blend of education and celebration, allowing the campus community to come together, learn, and enjoy a traditional Chinese New Year tradition. With its fun and engaging activities, the UWC Confucius Institute truly showcased the spirit of Chinese culture and left everyone eagerly awaiting next year's celebration.
